…to make a greater contribution to helping those with disabilities
When Phil Melville and Jean MacIntyre attended the 2012 Paralympics in London it set in motion a chain of thinking that eventually led to the formation of The Farthings Foundation.
Phil and Jean had a life-long interest in cycling and horse-riding respectively, as well as being involved with Children In Crisis and the Riding for the Disabled Association. However, when witnessing first-hand what determined individuals are capable of achieving within the sporting world… despite the extra challenges faced… they were truly inspired.

Having retired from business they decided the time was now right to make a greater contribution to helping those with disabilities (in both practical and financial terms) and set about formalising that dream. It’s an uncomplicated dream as, having been fortunate in their own lives, it seemed a logical progression into helping those who have arguably been slightly less fortunate.
The Farthings Foundation is self-funding and does not seek external funding or donations. However, if you are reading this and believe you might be able to assist (be that financially, or through your own field of expertise) we are always happy to have a dialogue.
